Bacharach was responsible for over 30 number one hits, and over 1000 artists have recorded his songs.

He and lyricist Hal David had their first number one in 1956. They would write together for four decades. When Hal retired, Burt wrote songs with his wife Carol Bayer Sager for a few years, as well as with Elvis Costello, Neil Diamond, Peter Allen, and Christopher Cross, to name a few.

Burt is regarded as one of the greatest contemporary composers of our time, with 6 decades of work.

Performing artists such as Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Gene Pitney, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, and Luther Vandross have interpreted his songs.
