Sun11Mar7:30 pmTicketedMADELEINE AND SALOMON (FRANCE) - "Clotilde Rullaud"

Event Details

The epic and libertarian duo Madeleine & Salomon embraces with ardor the feminist American songbook to cover it with loving-kindness tinged with a minimalistic music and with a deep and incandescent chant. Their first album¬†A Woman‚Äôs Journey¬†reveals a graceful and unexpected reinterpretation of a humanist and¬†rebellious repertoire¬†from Nina Simone to Janis Joplin to Billie Holiday to Josephine Baker.¬†Madeleine sings, Salomon sits at the piano.¬†Madeleine & Salomon is a duo with a natural elegance, ‚Äúless is more‚ÄĚ their essence.

Madeleine & Salomon¬†is the meeting of two artists with well-established musical visions:¬†the vocalist and flutist¬†Clotilde¬†(last album¬†In Extremis¬†#5 American NPR annual Jazz critics poll 2013 ‚Äď Debut album category, US CMJ Week 1300 Top Adds #5 ‚Äď 2013, #5 ‚ÄėBest Jazz‚Äô music category 2011 by the SundayTime )¬†and the pianist¬†Alexandre Saada¬†(Malia, Matha Reeves & the Vandellas‚Ķ).

Long-term friends, they discovered during a tour of Asia in 2014 that they shared a common musical aesthetic and decided to form the duo Madeleine & Salomon. They took advantage of the Melbourne Recital Centre (Australia) invitation in June 2015 to rethink the American Songbook in their original fashion to record their first album A Woman’s Journey. This homage to American female protest songstresses is enriched on stage by free improvisations inspired by dreamlike short films.
Since its release in France, it is receiving great applauses from the media. It has been elected “Best album 2016″ by the French National Radio France Musique¬†and by¬†Jazzmagazine¬†and¬†Citizenjazz. It has also been praised in the national newspapers¬†Liberation, reviewed in the national magazine¬†Causette¬†and by¬†CultureBox-FranceTV, praised one of the 10 summer albums by the¬†InRocks, “Pick of the week” on¬†FIP¬†– Radio France radio show, SHOCK in¬†Jazzmagazine, ESSENTIAL in¬†JazzNews,¬†ELECTED¬†CitizenJazz, YES!¬†Culture Jazz, TT¬†T√©l√©rama Sortir,¬†and it is regularly played on national radios such as¬†NOVA, France Musique,¬†RFI‚Ķ

This enthusiasm is now spreading outside France.¬†In the UK, they have been¬†“Pick of the week”¬†in the¬†SundayTimes¬†and interviewed and reviewed by Kevin Legendre in the¬†UK Magazine Echoes.¬†In Germany, they got a¬†4stars¬†review in¬†FonoForum¬†and an interview by Karl Lippegaus on the national German radio¬†WDR4.¬†Beginning of January, they have been selected by the¬†Israeli journalist Dubi Lenz,¬†as part of his “discoveries” of the¬†Winter Jazz Festival in NYC,¬†and recently the album has been played¬†on the American radios such as WMCB 107.9 and KUSP¬†along side¬†Kendrick Lamar, Kamazi Washington.
