Palimpsest Featuring Tyrone Noonan presents “A Yuletide Tipple”

Following on from last year’s highly successful Christmas show at Doo Bop, ARIA award-winning former george frontman Tyrone Noonan and his Palimpsest bandmates are back to perform some of the most cherished Christmas songs recorded by the greatest jazz singers of all time. From heartwarming ballads to stomping dance tunes, they will bring to life the works of legends such as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Harry Connick Jr. Joining Tyrone on this musical sleigh ride will be Queensland jazz luminaries Wil Sargisson (piano), Aaron Jansz (drums), and Elliot Parker (bass). Come celebrate with a tipple or two and a dance or few!

Palimpsest: (Pal) — (Imp) — (Sest) … a parchment, or the like, from which writing has been partially or completely erased to make room for another text. This jazz project, led by singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Tyrone Noonan, former frontman of the No. 1-charting, ARIA award-winning, multi-platinum-selling Australian band george, creates a timeless yet current sound that takes the listener on an entrancing journey across continents, cultures, and songwriting eras, fusing elements of Swing, Latin, Soul, and Folk.

The debut self-titled album’s stomping cover of Jon Hendricks’ “I’ll Bet You Thought I’d Never Find You” was licensed as the lead track on Messin’ Around Vol. 5 (Freestyle Records). The Pacifica remix was featured on UK DJ Russ Dewbury’s Jazz Rooms (Mr Bongo), and both versions received high rotation in clubs and radio stations across Europe, including Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 6 show (where Gilles labeled the track “a modern jazz classic”), Russ Dewbury’s Nu Jazz Spectrum, and Karsten Johns’ Vinyl Vibes.

Palimpsest has performed at many high-profile Australian events, including the Federal Budget Dinner at Canberra’s Parliament House Great Hall, numerous festivals such as Brisbane, Woodford, and St Kilda Fest, Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Ballet galas, the Brisbane Burlesque and Cabaret Festivals (including The Old Museum in April 2023 – “What’s Going On”), Tanks Arts Centre, and Brisbane Jazz Club, among others.

“It was fantastic, and for a minute there, I imagined I was at the Sands in Vegas listening to Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. Noonan is brilliant and relaxed,” said Phil Brown, renowned Queensland journalist and art critic.
