Event Details

A Night on Bourbon St! The music of New Orleans.

Award-winning multi instrumentalist Adrian Cunningham will be paying tribute to one of the greatest cities in the world- New Orleans, as recorded on his upcoming Arbors Records release Swing it Out!

New Orleans is home to some of American music’s greatest exponents like Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Fats Domino, with music that has inspired generations of artists branching out into jazz to R&B and funk.

With a selection of some of the 20th Century’s best repertoire inspired by Crescent City, Adrian will be bringing the spirit of Mardi Gras to Brisbane.

Originally from Sydney and based in NYC since 2008, Adrian quickly rose to be one of the most in demand woodwind players on the New York jazz scene, having recorded/performed with Jazz luminaries such as Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Wynton Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, Cecile Mclorin Salvant, Steve Jordan, Grammy-winner Vince Giordano and Grammy-nominated Rene Marie.

Adrian regularly performs at some of New York’s top clubs: Birdland, Blue Note, Dizzy’s Coca Cola (Lincoln Centre) and a personal highlight was playing Carnegie Hall with the New York Sinfonietta Orchestra in 2017.

Adrian is a proud member of Downbeat-winner Wycliffe Gordon’s ensemble The International All Stars, which has recorded 3 albums.

Adrian keeps a busy touring schedule, working at festivals around the world, highlights including Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Johannesburg Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Snowball Swing Festival (Sweden), Swing Crash Festival (Como, Italy), and Tokyo Jazz Festival

In fact, Adrian will arrive to Brisbane straight off the back of a February world tour that includes South Carolina, Florida, Georgia (USA), Reykjavik (ICELAND), Sri Lanka, and the Maldives!

Adrian is the recipient of the Hot House Saxophone Award for 2017.

Adrian’s band, Professor Cunningham and His Old School, is the winner of international band competition World Jam, (2016, 2017) held each year in Madrid, Spain, and the 2017 international band competition Harlem, held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
